Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine is a Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Her mother Pam has been a previous backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father proposed her to take on the position of curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved in to the historic landmark. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan began singing in the children's choir as a contralto and then she joined the adult chorus a couple of years afterwards. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially minimal "I did solos in the church, and I was asked to go on the gospel label at age was 11 years old, but I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's was hosting a competition for kids in major cities I was invited to perform 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime in the Apollo and the audience responded really well". The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year thirteen. Sullivan aged 15 began her career with Jive Records. In the age group of 15 she signed with Jive Records. They recorded her complete album at Jive Records, however it didn't get released. Sullivan was then dropped by the labels. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded a number of the tracks on her debut album, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
